Earlier this month, I saw Chris's version of these love birds over at book-a-rama. I got the pattern from Lion Brand Yarns and it was very easy to follow. In fact, the hardest part of these little guys was getting their faces put together so they matched.
I didn't have the safety eyes referenced in the pattern (but also don't have kids running around who would play with them). I used beads that I had left over from making some jewelry. The eyes on the birds on the bookshelf below are amethyst.

I was afraid the homespun yarn would be too fluffy for this project, so I also made these birds with regular multi-colored yarn (these are the things I do on roadtrips). Different sort of look. This multi-colored yarn changed from one color to another at the same intervals, which ended up making a bird that was pretty much striped for most of its body. Think I like the mixed colors above better, but these guys are cute, too. These guys have freshwater pearls for eyes.

Great job! They came out really well.
Thank you! and thanks again for introducing me to this whole Japanese crochet world!
These are ADORABLE!!! All of them - they are just so cute! Can I ask you how long it took you to make one? I am really bad at crochet, but they are so cute, I might give it a try. Love the beads you used for eyes. I could seem myself having lots of these little guys all over the house!
These are so cute, I can't STAND it! And I really don't even like birds. But these are disgustingly adorable! I just want to smoosh them and cuddle them to pieces! If I ever learn to do this I will have to get this pattern...
What cute little guys. Very creative..thanks for sharing. - MaLinda

Cute birds!! I've got a pattern similar to this one.
Now I really wish I could crochet...or at least get over my fear of tiny knitting needles. Those birds are too darn cute! I love how you crocheted them with different yarns to see the affects. I LOVE doing that.
Looking forward to more of your posts. Thank you for sharing in Fiber Arts Friday.
Jennifer - they took me a few hours, but i was on a roadtrip and they kept me busy.
Katy - I love the Japanese crochet b/c it's the same stitch over and over. The trick of the pattern is adding or subtracting stitches to each row to make the 3-D shape. I definitely recommend. (Also - glad you think they're cute b/c my hubs thought they looked like aliens.)
WonderWhyGal - I enjoyed the multi-colors too, although probably the blended yarn more. Looking forward to more Fiber Art Fridays!
